In this post I am going to walk you through how to add a custom font in Figma.
Figma is a popular tool for designers, product managers, writers and developers and helps anyone involved in the design process contribute, give feedback, and make better decisions, faster.
To add a custom font to Figma you first need to download the Desktop app from here. Depending on what kind of platform you use, you can choose between the Desktop App for macOS or Windows.
Once you have downloaded Figma, now its time to install the custom font. You are looking for files with the extension .otf
or .ttf
. Depending on where you got the font from, it should come with either an OTF or TTF file or both.
For example - Lets assume you want to use the font Geist and you downloaded it from here. Once you unzip the archive you will see one or more OTF and TTF files for different variations of the font.
Both OTF and TTF files serve the same purpose. They have font data inside of it which can be installed globally on your system. Usually designers prefer OTF files because of its additional features.
Once you double click an OTF file you should be prompted to install that font on your system. After you follow the steps in that setup, that font should be available for use in the Figma Desktop App like any other default font.
Please note that you might have you restart Figma after installing the font, so that its reloaded.
